Volunteers sought to disinfect local school classes

With the Swine Flu outbreak, health organizations are emphasizing basic cleanliness as a way to help slow the spread of contagions. Heather Page, at Sargent Steam noted that research by a BYU professor shows hot steam can be more effective at killing germs than chemical disinfectants.

Page said her company is encouraging customers who own one of their steam cleaners to volunteer to use it to disinfect their children’s local school classrooms. She noted that research from the Centers for Disease Control has also shown that steam is an effective germ killer.

The study was done by Dr. Richard Robison, an associate professor of microbiology at BYU. It showed that many types of bacteria were killed with less than two seconds of exposure, something that could not be duplicated with chemical disinfectants.

“For those who are concerned about getting rid of flu germs in their environment, I would encourage them to investigate the advantages offered by hot steam,” Page said. “Anyone who has one of our products could perform a valuable service by offering to disinfect the classrooms where their children attend school.”

The Secret to Cleaning with Microfiber Cloths

If your house is like mine, you may have problems with dust. It got to the point it was so bad I thought I was just going to have to learn to look around the dust. How to get around the sneezing was going to be a little more difficult. I was really hesitant to have people over because I couldn’t seem to find anything that worked.

I tried spays, and they just made everything greasy and smelly. I tried what some people call “Microfibers” but they just seemed to push the dust around and let it fly into the air to settle again. Not only does that NOT solve my dust problem, but those methods make my boyfriends allergies go crazy!

I heard form a friend, who gets all her Microfibers form Sargent Steam, there are many kinds of Microfibers. They can be made from different material blends that vary results. This is where you have to know what to look for. She told me there are a few manufactures that make their blend with cotton and microfiber. This prevents the “cling factor.” The best way to go is a poly-blend with no cotton.

She also informed me different weaves get better results in different methods of using them. There are some cloths good for dry use and others that water is the key ingredient. She suggested a lofty weave was the way to go for dust. The tiny, star shaped fibers act like super-hungry fingers grabbing anything you run your hand over. And KEEPING it there!

One day my daughter, a college student, came across two good chairs that someone had put out on the curb because they were dirty. She brought them home and cleaned them with the steam cleaner.

Oh No Strawberry Stain in the Tile Grout

Story told to Dianne Keown: One day my daughter called in a panic she had some strawberry stains crushed into her tile grout and she could not get them out. I told her I would bring my steam cleaner over and see what I could do to help remove that red stain. Mircle of mircles with a little bar soap and some time with the steamer I removed all of the stain. Perfect story ending my daughter was delighted to have it gone. Allisha

As a new home owner obviously my first job was to clean my house top to bottom. My family is very much into the green cleaning. We even purchased a Sargent Steam cleaner about a year ago. Never having had to clean tile and grout I was worried. I have to admit I had no idea how I was going to clean the grout in my bathroom without some kind of chemical. Truthfully I wasn’t even sure what the original color of grout was. At the moment it was just nasty. I should never have questioned the ability of my steamer. I placed the small stiff brush on the end of the nozzle and with nothing more than hand soap had the grout back to its original color in no time. My husband actually thought I had the tile and grout replaced because there was such a drastic difference.

I love to keep my car as clean as I can and I have found the best way to dry off my car after the car wash, and to eliminate spots and streaks when I do, is to use my new Microfiber Car Was Cloth. The waffle weave of the cloth lets me use a little texture to gently scrub and get the small problem areas the car wash missed off and I can dry the whole outside in just minutes and not have to worry about leftover messes. I HAVE FOUND THE SECRET TO LOOKING LIKE I BUY A NEW PAIR OF TENNIS SHOES FOR EACH DAY OF THE WEEK. THE TRUTH IS ITS THE SAME PAIR OF TENNIS SHOES I’VE OWNED FOR OVER A YEAR AND THEY’VE NEVER SEEN THE INSIDE OF A WASHING MACHINE. THE SECRET IS MY SARGENT STEAMER. I SIMPLY USE IT, SOME HAND SOAP AND ONE OF THE ATTCHMENTS MY STEAMER CAME WITH WHICH IS CALLED THE SMALL STIFF BRUSH. I PLACE THE BRUSH ON THE NOZZLE, RUB SOME HAND SOAP ON AND CLEAN AWAY. Collectors Best Friend-Microfiber Dusting Gloves

I am an avid Nascar collector. Dale Jr and Kevin Harvick are my boys. I collect allot of die cast and just about anything I can get my hands on. With everything in my collection being expensive and very delicate my most challenging task has been keeping the dust off. I want to share with everyone out there experiencing this problem my solution. Its called the Microfiber Dusting Glove. Nothing works better or faster. I bought two gloves, one for each hand. As you pick up the item you are able to not only dust the shelf it is on but the item as well. Because it is a glove and not a cloth the fingers reach the most difficult and hidden crevices. The Microfiber gloves traps dust and dirt easily when you use them dry when wet the glove removes all the dirt thanks to the fibers. I found that it is not only good on my collection pieces and cabinets but all around the house and car. When your done you simply throw them in the wash. I am in LOVE.

Cleaning with steam from one of my fans

This is a message a recieved fro one of my customers the other day and this is what she wrote:

Dear Dianne,

I wanted to tell you my “steamer” story. We recently moved from our 3800 sq’ house to a 2700 sq’ house. Downsizing is a good thing! However, we had lived in our other house for about 12 years and all the moving, painting and repair was done by my husband. Jeff told me to get a hold of our former housecleaner (back when we both worked and he did not play the roll of stay-at-home-dad) to clean up the floors, closets, bathrooms and floorboards.

I told him to let the kids and me “at it” with the steamer. Whoo boy have we put the machine to the test! The entire 3800 feet is wood flooring. We have crown moulding and tile and we had seven cats indoors at one point (until they started “marking”!). I am ashamed to admit what pigs we were! I only wish I had the “before” and “after” shots. The floors and floorboards shine! The bathrooms and laundry are really clean and every trace of cat is gone! My husband agrees that the steamer was a really good investment (okay, slow on the uptake; there nonetheless).

The real reason I wrote though is that during the “dusting” phase of the cleaning I broke my mop!. Should I go on line to order another or should I go through you?
